2pp. Nice clear red duty stamp for 1/2 penny to upper rear margin and number below. [Red Rose of England designed by John Rollos].Heavy damage to fore-edge of the margin affecting 2 inches of text. Two masthead engravings of a boy trumpeting and an angel ditto. Nice dark impression. The Post Boy was first published in London on Sept. 28th 1695 by A.Roper and ran until Sept. 28th 1728. It is believed only up to 3-4000 copies were printed. News includes an insureection in Sicily against the Savoyards; Venetians fight the Turks; Spain conquers Sardinia; Captain Hancock arrives form Virginia etc. View more info
