Folding town plan of Lancaster with views. 38x30 inches [950 x780 cms.] Scale 1:2400. Original fine green calf slip-case holds the plan. Heavily gilt decorated on all sides. A trifle rubbed. The title on the slip-case spine reads 'PLAN OF LANCASTER'. The dedication on the plan reads: 'Is by Permission Respectfully Dedicated to Our Most Gracious Sovereign King George IV Duke of Lancaster.'. In 1825 Binns published this map of Lancaster made from his own survey. A large map engraved by W.R. Gradner, Oxford Street, London and dissected into 24 and laid on linen. Green cloth edge finely sewn to the edge of the map to protect it.. Vignettes of The Gateway Tower, Lancaster form the North-East and Speed's town plan of 1610 inset.
