All edges gilt. Very tight in a fine condition with marbled end-papers. PLEASE EMAIL FOR PHOTOS. The first 3 front leaves of the book are pasted in from the original binding and have manuscript notes of people and events relating to the Borradaile family. [originaly of Wigton, Cumberland 1759]. Many family connections in short notes were added at later dates including some small obituary notes from later newspapers. John, a tanner by trade, and Mary Borradaile of Wigton ran a Cloth factory in Wigton and their two sons, Richardson and William [1750-1831] ran a London hat and fur business before becoming major traders and shipping owners. They were East India Company directors with Richardson becoming an MP for Newcasstle Upon Tyne in 1826. This family bible from Wigton presumably was owned by John Borradailes [1725-1783] and repaired by his wealthy descendants in this superb Riviere binding in London a hundred years later. [Isaiah Green stated that 'Kneeland and Green' pub. at Boston in 1752 for David Henchman the first Bible in English in America. This was printed as privately as possible, to avoid royalties, from a 1752 London Baskett Bible and reportedly had the imprint of Mark Baskett London 1752. No Mark Baskett London [Boston] 1752 bible has been found and his imprint only started in 1761. This issue we are selling is the nearest copy to fit the Isaiah Green description we have found. No American Boston 1752 copy has ever been recorded]
